Only difference is that Russia, China, US mostly buy their own weapons and generate employment and uplift industry and R&D in their own country. While India is the world''s largest importer.

Our defense budget should only be used for R&D to develop our own 5th generation fighter jets and tanks. We should either learn to develop our own weapons or stop spending any money on defense.

Where is Make in India?? Instead of purchasing at inflated rates marred with corruption and commissions, we should create and innovate indigenous weapons. Why cant we? We can venture into advanced rocket science, then this should be a piece of cake.

It is very unfortunate but Make in India has not been a success in the defense sector so far. We keep importing billions of dollars worth of equipment, money which could have been used to make the armaments in India and create more India-based employment. I hope Modi and Sitharamanan provide more focus to this initiative. Without a powerful military and indigenous weapons, we will keep bleeding with precious foreign exchange going out of the country in billions.

Mad rush to acquire arms and ammunition for security of the country. While both Chinese and Russians are well ahead in research and development, India lacks making it an importer. Hopefully another two decades should witness rise of India make weaponry too.
